What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, known in Thailand as nuad Thai, is a traditional bodywork practice with roots going back centuries. In 2019 UNESCO added it to its list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

It feels very different from an oil massage. Instead of long gliding strokes, Thai massage uses rhythmic pressure from the palms and thumbs, gentle compressions and assisted stretches. I move your body through a series of stretching positions while working along lines of the body that Thai tradition calls sen.

The result is active and grounding at the same time. People often describe it as having yoga done for you.

It's in the name for a reason. I hold a VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Thai Massage, awarded in January 2024, and I have more than 12 years of hands-on massage experience. Thai massage sits at the heart of my practice.

Thai massage involves stretching and movement. Please tell me about any injuries, health conditions or pregnancy before we start, so I can adapt the session or suggest a different treatment.

What to expect in your session

We start with a short conversation about how you feel, the pressure you prefer and the areas you'd like me to focus on. Then I work through the body step by step, combining pressure and stretches at a pace that suits you. You can ask me to change the pressure at any time.

Traditional Thai massage is usually received in loose, comfortable clothing. When you book, ask me what to wear and I'll let you know.

If it's your first Thai massage, a 90-minute session gives time to work through the whole body without rushing. An hour suits a shorter, more focused session.

Studio or mobile Thai massage

In the studio: a private, calm space in Chiswick W4, near Stamford Brook on the District line and easy to reach from Hammersmith, Gunnersbury and Turnham Green.
